What are they looking for? We talk about “the customers expectations” a lot throughout our site. We feel this is one of many areas that should not be overlooked during a campaign, especially an online search oriented campaign. It’s a big factor in all media efforts (print, radio, TV, etc) but in those mediums you have only polling numbers and market share estimates to go by. A lot of complex data, and data a small to mid sized business does not have access too, or time to go through. Instead the magazine gives you it’s demographic numbers and you decide if your budget can take the hit for a while to find out if it’s true.

Why is it different in a search campaign? Well, because we know what they searched for. Ah-ha, yeah I know it’s not a huge epiphany or bright light bulb. It’s simple, and simple is so overlooked in today’s huge markets. The beauty is in it’s simplicity, since you know what they searched for, you know what to show them. Example: Some just visited your web site after searching for “Arizona injury lawyer”, yet another searched for “Peoria Medical malpractice lawyer”.

When the technical portion of the marketing campaign is done properly, and if it’s in line with the overall strategy of the campaign, you can display a different page for each of those visitors. Each page speaks more to their specific needs based on what they searched. So the one that needs an injury lawyer instantly views a page related to your experiences with injury law and what forms they can fill-out on your site (right now) to get started with the case, the one who needs to take his doctor to court can see all of the cases where you succeeded in taking care of your clients legal needs related to malpractice. If the visitor searched “help in my practices malpractice suite”, you can show where you have helped the doctor win cases.

It’s interesting (to us anyway) how different a specifically placed word can explain what that visitors intentions are, what condition they are in, what side of the story they are coming from. For example, if you sold legal text books you would know that someone searching for “important legal text for my customers” is probably not a lawyer. Because lawyers use the word ‘client’ not ‘customer’. Plumbers, Electricians, construction workers, doctors, teachers, all use a different word for the same thing in many cases.

Do you know your audience?

Being more specific about the whole concept here, I want to discuss how you get a sale based on all this. Think of your website as your outsourced sales force. You have to teach your sales force, you have to give them the tools, you have to research your customer (surveys: “how are we doing, where can we improve, what did you like about” etc). All those things would be considered if you either hired a sales force or if you set out to build a sales force. Do you know your client, do you know your customer, do you know their fears, their concerns, their state of mind (perspective on this ‘issue’ –the issue of this particular sale –whether that be you selling them a radio/car or tax returns). I would bet that you do. So what does it mean…

It means you have powerful information and you can sell to more of the people that come to your site than you ever thought possible. Hopefully this is a good example.

When searching for technical services the CEO does not know what good technical support is. When selling services you must sell something that does not exist, to someone who does not know what a good one is. How do you possibly do this? Well it’s not done well and it’s not done often. Knowing what the customers perspective is on this ‘issue’ and what their ‘pain/concerns’ are helps tremendously. Typically what happens here is the person looking finds what he/she believes are the top 3 and divides their gut feeling into the overall price. Then they stick with that decision for far too long (as is the case most of the time, until they are hurt badly enough to start the process again). What if your technical support company was the one that spoke to them directly. What if you were the only one that had a third variable in this equation. You know how they feel, you speak clearly to them about a subject they know nothing about, you show them instantly that they are important to you (which is their pain).

They searched for “understandable technical support for mid size business in phoenix”.

How were you able to speak to them, know their perspective, and know their pain? I can put it into one word “search”.

Is your website really selling for you?

Lately, there have been a lot of heated discussions regarding link building. Is it ethical to create a link building campaign? Does Google or any other search engine penalize for “link farms” (a bunch of non-related links created for the SOLE purpose of increasing search engine ratings)? Is the “link building era” over?

Link Farms

Many webmasters claim that Google penalizes websites for link farms. If this is so, why are a link farm sites that have a page rank of 5 on their link farm page? Let me give you an example, go to Google.com, type in any popular keyword(s) and append the word “links” to it. For example, “ABCD Links.” Notice you’ll get tones of websites that are linking to unrelated sites, but still have a great PR. I do not encourage link farming in any way or form, but building valuable partnerships is something I do encourage. If you’re a jewelry site and you’re exchanging links with an antiques site, I think this is a great thing. It’s very possible that someone searching for jewelry may have an interest in antiques. I own a few sites and the hits I receive from partially related sites are phenomenal. Most of my websites are targeted towards webmasters so I receive hits from all sorts of sites. Remember, many webmasters claim to know the truth regarding search engine algorithms, but no one knows the EXACT TRUTH except the programmers at the search engines. Webmasters may have been penalized in the past for link farms and doorway pages (pages created around certain keywords for the sole purpose of redirecting surfers to the main page), but who’s to say why some HAVEN’T been penalized.

Who Should I Create Link Partnerships With?

1. Create link partnerships with sites related to your site.

2. Create link partnerships with sites that have an audience that may be interested in your products

3. Exchange homepage links with websites that fit in your genre. You’ll receive a link on a page with a good ranking and you’ll get quality, targeted hits.

How Do You Find Link Partners?

1. Signup with an automated links management provider that organizes your links and helps find link partners. Automated tools are the best because they help you save time. Uploading and downloading your pages for every link exchange can be a huge pain and very time consuming. Automated tools are NOT link farms because they give you complete control of who you exchange links with. If a member exchanges links with every website, he/she might be abusing the tool. If a member uses the tool responsibly, it can be very effective.

2. This is a great little exercise I would recommend to anyone.

a. Write down 20 search terms pertaining to your website

b. Go to http://www.google.com and type in a search term written in step A

c. Contact as many websites as possible listed under that search term and ask them to exchange inner page or homepage links with you. If they’re NOT interested, ask whether they would be interested in selling advertising space. If your website is fairly new, you may want to ask sites for advertising prices. Free hits are the best hits but sometimes you might have to go the extra lap and pay for service. I wouldn’t recommend spending over $100 / month for advertising UNLESS it’s a high traffic site with your site audience. The best deals are the ones that offer $10-25 / month. There are sites out there that will sell SUPER cheap advertising, and others that charge an arm and a leg.

EVERYONE gets rejected sometime or another so keep your head up and keep moving along! The internet is comprised of Billions of websites. If you’re rejected 500 times, you still have MANY business opportunities left! This is a continuous job so set aside time every week to do this. If you don’t have time for this, then you don’t have time to make money.

3. Hire a link building firm (this can be quite expensive but if you have money, its minimal work for you)

PageRank

Pagerank is a great tool but don’t use it as your ONLY measurement for success. I can’t explain everything about pagerank but a good explanation is given at http://www.google-watch.org/pagerank.html.

Conclusion

In conclusion, link building is not only for increasing link partners and search engine rankings, it’s also used to create partnerships and establish profitable relationships with other webmasters. Link building is a tedious process, but one of the best for getting free (sometimes not), targeted hits from other websites.

Without "Tricking" any search engine the most simplistic approach to getting found by those looking for your offering is to insure your specific Internet Community knows what your site is about. Search Engines do not trust the content on your site to tell them what it is about. There is a very solid reason for this, they’ve been duped. Web Sites have been "traffic" driven for a very long time. The term " Internet Super Highway " was coined under the premise that when a website is receiving a lot of visitors it is valuable real estate on a popular curve in the freeway of information. The more popular a section of highway is the more expensive the billboard space is. So since the people making the sites were only compensated by advertising dollars they drove traffic in. They did not care what kind of traffic; they just wanted visitors, lots of them. And they were duly compensated, even if the traffic was related to a term that was searched very often but had nothing to do with the site. The Search Engines began to lose face, people would stop using a particular engine because they could not find what they were looking for, they simply found sites that had a lot of banners and had a lot of the text they were looking for on the page, but nothing to offer. This is why the Search Engines do not trust your web site. They must determine what your site is about in some other logical manner. Remember these are machines, they only know numbers. So instead of the machine counting the words on your site, they count the words on all the sites that link to you. The sites that link to you are your Internet Community. If those sites are related, and they are popular, and you make sure the search engines can count the right words the right way, then you will have explained to the engine what your site is about without having to trick it in any way.

Search Engines must trust your internet community. Mathematically they have no choice. They are like any system, they are data driven, they have very little data to go by other than the data on your site and all of the sites that link to you. But because this is all they have to work with, they use every miniscule piece of information within. They look at title tags of your site and the site linking to you. They look at the text under the images, the descriptions, the keywords, and the text in the link. They count all the links on all the pages and all the pages, pages. They are counting everything.

When competing for a specific term all those little things that they are counting come into play! This is when they compare your site to other sites and decide the order in which to place your site. If the other site has more qualifiers than you they get a higher ranking. So in no way are you tricking the search engine, but an effort must be made to increase the qualifiers so your site can compete. Knowing which qualifiers hold more value to the search engine can help a great deal. The trump card of all qualifiers is the text in the link on all those other sites that point to you.

This is simple search engine results because the most effective sites are campaign driven. What this means in a nut shell is that they don’t focus just on one term. When competing on many terms the playing field is complicated exponentially. Much attention must be paid to the details, and as you can imagine there are a lot of those laying around in our new Internet media.

Nowadays, there is so much talk about SEO (search engine optimization) that it has become an industry of its own. Still, 90% of webmasters don`t know how to achieve high search engine positions. In this article, you`ll learn what the 90% doesn`t…

First of all, I would like to give a huge credit to Brad Callen, a man that taught me more than any other "guru" on the planet. He is so simple, and always gets to the point. you can visit his site at seoelite.com (note: In show of respect, I`m not even his affiliate, so if you buy SEO Elite, the software you must have for SEO to decimate your time spent, I won`t get a penny from it).

Back to the start. What is actually SEO- search engine optimization?

Well, in the previous articles you`ve learned how to choose a domain name for your website, how to choose a web host , how to actually make your own website and what (profitable) topic should your website be about. Now it`s time for SEO.

SEO is simply adjusting your website to get high position in the search engine results.

When you were an ordinary surfer, let`s say you searched for "jokes". What you probably didn`t know is that the first 10 websites in the results busted their asses for such positions. Admit it, you didn`t even care. You just wanted to get relevant results for keyword "jokes". Newsflash, you got them.

That`s what search engines are for: providing relevant content for their users.

Now that you are in the website development business, your goal is to get one of those top 10 positions.

Some people say it`s hard, I say it requires time. If you don`t know how to achieve high rankings then it`s hard.

You`ll learn how to do it right here, in this article, only on Construct-a-site.com :) )).

Let`s start with the proven facts why should you even optimize your website for search engines like Google, Yahoo! and MSN (top 3)

  • Search engines are the best source for free and targeted (you`ll learn what "targeted traffic" is in the upcoming articles) traffic.

  • Search engines bring you more than 80% of your total traffic.
  • Without Search Engines no one would be able to find your website that quick (or maybe not at all).
  • CONCLUSION: it is essential to get your site indexed by search engines
  • Yep, totally essential. Finally, let`s start kicking SE-s asses.

    Factors that affect your rankings

As my mentor Brad would say, there are 2 factors that have effect on your search engine positioning: The on-page optimization factors

    1. The on-page optimization factors
    2. The off-page optimization factors

    The on-page optimitation factors

Generally, for Google- less important, for Yahoo and MSN- quite important.

There is a phrase: "Content is the king", which is totally true.

The on-page factors include how is a website built, and by that I don`t mean the design. Here is what really counts to search engines:

    • Using h1 header tags. Make all of your article and web page titles under the h1 header tags and put some of your main keywords under them. Search engines love that !

  • Using alt image tags. If you have images on your website, make sure you describe them with alt tags. Also, put some of your keywords into them. Search engines love that !
  • Use ordered and unordered lists. They have bigger importance than the normal text, and will also help your visitors that "scan" for information. Search engines love that !
  • Give your text more order and "readability". Don`t put everything in one place. Break the text with paragraphs. Bold and italicize important keywords. "All-in-all", make your visitors enjoy reading your content. Search engines love that !
  • Regulary update your website with fresh content. Your visitors will be very pleased to find out that a new article about their favourite topic ( that`s why they`re visiting your website..) came out. It also pleases search engine spiders (crawlers) to see that your website is updated often. They will update your site more often in the index. Search engines love that !
  • Never, ever use "black hat" SEO. "Black hat" SEO is optimizing your website with things to trick the Search Engines. Some examples of the "black hat " SEO:
  • 1. Title spamming. Place noumerous same keywords in your .

    2. URL cloaking. When someone redirects SE crawlers to a site totally optimized for them, but a regular sufer is redirected to a completely different website.

    3. Using hidden text. This one is one of the most common. You simply change the color of your text to the color of your background.

    4. tag spamming. Same as

It’s all about location, location, location!

In the past…back in the days when Google was IT when it came to natural search results…everyone was very focused (or shall we say obsessed?) on Google page rank.

Now that Google is a public company and the search business has become competitive (most notably due to the serious search capabilities now being offered by Yahoo and Microsoft, via MSN), Google has become much more "private" or secretive about things like page rank, backlinks, etc.

As a matter of fact, many are of the opinion that Google is now intentionally displaying outdated page rank and backlink information on the Google Toolbar in an effort to mask the true workings of Google and to frustrate the Search Engine Optimization (SEO) community, which had become fairly skillful at "playing the Google game". If this is the case, then Google page rank fixation is now pure folly.

Another factor that is closely watched by webmasters is the Alexa traffic rank. This traffic rank is based on three months of aggregated historical traffic data from millions of Alexa Toolbar users.

However, the Alexa user base is only a sample of the Internet population, and sites with relatively low traffic will not be accurately ranked by Alexa due to the statistical limitations of the sample.

Alexa’s data come from a large sample of several million Alexa Toolbar users; however, this is not large enough to accurately determine the rankings of sites with fewer than roughly 1,000 total monthly visitors.

Generally speaking, traffic rankings of over 100,000 should be regarded as not reliable because the amount of data that Alexa has available is not statistically significant.

Who said the emperor is wearing no clothes?

With the questionable current accuracy of two of the hallowed benchmarks of search popularity, where does that leave us? It leaves us exactly where we should have been in the first place, not obsessing over Google Page Rank or Alexa Traffic Rank, but instead focusing on the most important thing of all…and that is, what is your position in the listings when a person searches for your key words.

For both search engines and real estate, it’s all about location, location, location!

You should be. If you have never heard of Google PageRank and you have established a website, it is high time you learned about Google PageRank and what it means to you and the success of your website. Having an excellent Google PageRank can either make or break a website in terms of overall success. Let’s take a look at what Google PageRank is and why it is so important to every website owner.

First, a word about the Google Search engine: Google is one of the most popular search engines on the Internet. Not only is Google’s search engine the absolute largest of its kind, the company focuses on making web information easy to access and even easier to find. Google has designed a unique system and the search engine has yet to be surpassed in terms of the information it provides. Google has grown immensely since its early beginning in 1996 and it will continue to be a predominant force on the Internet. Furthermore, because Google offers easy access to immediate information, they own one of the top Internet search engines in the world. Thus, it would serve a webmaster well to become familiar with the Google PageRank process-the Google PageRank is an algorithm that is based on inbound links and other factors and will ultimately determine the location of listing of your website in the Google Search Engine.

    What precisely is Google PageRank?

Google PageRank is a process the search engine’s uses as a way of selecting sites to answer specific queries. Basically, when an Internet user submits a query, the Google search engine will attempt to match websites to the query that has been posed. Yet, there is a bit more to this simple science than the act of submitting a query suggests. Rather, behind the scenes, Google uses specific algorithms to determine if a site specifically address a web user’s needs by analyzing the content of a site by keyword and by the number of inbound links associated with the site-every inbound link is viewed as a vote and the more votes one has, in conjunction with the more keywords one has, the higher their Google PageRank is.

Why is Your Google PageRank Significant?

What does it mean to you when your Google PageRank is increased? Does it really matter what your Google PageRank is at all? You bet it does-the higher your Google PageRank is the higher on a search engine’s listing your website will appear. Thus, if you are looking for top billing, especially in a search engine as popular as the one Google offers, you will definitely want to maximize your efforts of getting your website visible and improving your PageRank is the best way to accomplish such a task. Moreover, the higher you appear on the search engine listing offered by Google, or many other search engines, the easier your website is to find. Essentially this equates to more web traffic for your website and if you are running an online business, more web traffic ultimately means more profit for you.

    Making Google PageRank Improvements

If you are looking to improve your Google PageRank you can do so by starting a link campaign. A link campaign can help you increase more inbound links to your website and in turn, more inbound links will increase your Google PageRank. How do you start a link campaign? Well, you can go the hard route by scouring the Internet to find websites similar to your own. Or, you can make your link campaign a far easier process by using the services afforded to you by PageRank Browser and locate all of the best, themed websites on the Internet with relative ease.

Of course, there are few things you must bear in mind when you begin your link campaign. Google actually rates various links and holds some links higher than others. In other words, if you link to 100 less than popular sites you may increase your Google PageRank. Conversely, if you link to 50 extremely popular sites and you get inbound links in return, you may significantly increase your Google PageRank because the most popular sites on the Internet are linking directly too you. Thus, when you begin your link campaign, keep this popularity issue in the back of your mind. Further, know that in using PageRank Browser, you will be able to locate the popular sites with ease, and thereby significantly increase your Google PageRank.

    About Inbound Links

Quite frankly, some links that you will establish will be better than others. You goal will be to establish the best links possible by examining the quality of inbound links. Various webmaster tools can help you determine the quality of the reciprocal links you establish. You will want to work hard at establishing direct inbound links to your site-direct links from already popular websites. You will also need to establish links to websites that are similar to yours-remember the search engine algorithm used by Google to determine your page rank is based on relevance. You will also find that the location of inbound links is of significant importance. For example, when you establish inbound links, those links that are buried deep within a website will have less influence on the ranking of your website in Google’s search engine.

What is clear is that your Google PageRank is of significant importance. Thus, every effort should be used to improve your Google PageRank-with the use of webmaster tools and the use of sites like PageRank Browser you should have little difficulty getting your PageRank right where it should be. Therefore, you will not only improve your PageRank you will improve the web traffic you receive by leaps and bounds. Moreover, your improved PageRank will make you a force on the Internet to be reckoned with-you will have a highly recognizable website for all your efforts and you will ultimately improve your online business’ bottom line.

PageRank Browser (http://www.pagerank-browser.com/) is a free service which allows one to navigate websites and provides quick access to Google Page Rank value of all linked pages.

Every business owner I’ve met has been encouraged at some point to invest in a website; often convinced with hype that if their business didn’t have a website then they might as well pack their bags and retire to the social security queue.

Hype aside, this statement is basically true. Certainly, any business deemed suitable for online marketing will miss out on a flood of new business without the incorporation of a thorough online marketing strategy.

In accepting this, you may choose to have a new website developed with all the bangs and whistles. But beware; unless your site can be found amongst the millions of web pages now shown on the Internet, your time and resources have been wasted.

That’s why a Search Engine Optimiser is essential in maximising your chances of online success. Search Engine Optimisation in it’s simplest form is the practice of fine tuning your website to achieve the highest possible position in the search results when a person searches for information using a search engine.

In this article I will highlight the does and don’ts of selecting a credible and effective SEO company. There are a number of points to be considered when making this decision.

    Including:

    Q. How can I judge if the SEO Company will produce what they say?

    A. In answering this question, be aware of the following when either talking to them or reading their sales pitches.

    1. No reputable SEO company will submit your website to more than 30 odd major search engines and indexes. These major search engines and directories feed their search results to the million or so other so called “search engines”. Submissions to a greater number is quite unnecessary and a certain indicator of a lack of professionalism.

    2. Be wary of any claim that your site will be submitted to thousands of search engines. It is more than likely that these submissions will be made to what we call FFA websites. These are not search engines at all, but rather a kind of link exchange website. As a result, your email server may be flooded by huge amounts of unwanted email. In short, stay well away from any SEO making such claims.

    3. Ask any prospective SEO to detail the successes they have had with their previous clients submissions. In being aware of these successes, your confidence in the ability of the SEO to maximise your website effectiveness will increase.

    Q. How can I know if these website submissions are genuinely being done?

    A. Unfortunately, in reality, you can’t. Be certain to ask for a list of search engines and directories where submissions will or have been made. Any reputable SEO company will supply you with a written monthly report highlighting the search engines to which your site has been submitted, the submission dates and progress of your website rankings. If, after 3 months, your website ranking hasn’t improved then it is more than likely that optimisation isn’t occurring and even doubtful whether the promised website submissions have even been made.

    Q. How long before I can reasonably expect my search engine ranking to improve?

    A. Usually, as a rule of thumb most of the major search engines will take up to 3 - 4 months before they will index your website. This is not always the case. Recently, I submitted my website to the Google Directory and indexation occurred the same day. The waiting time for indexation is unpredictable, but be prepared to allow 3-4 months.

    Q. Will my SEO Company notify me when a search engine has added me to their index?

    A. Yes. You should be notified within days of your website being indexed and at the very least at the end of each month.

    Q. How will my SEO company optimise my website for submission to the search engines and Directories?

    A. Basically, a good SEO will make your website as search engine friendly as possible. This will involve changing the text and html code behind your website. Simply, when the search engine robot enters your website it finds it very easy to determine what your website is about. The correct keywords and meta tags will have been placed within your site, to ensure that the robot is able to collect and pass off information with speed and accuracy. This results in a much improved rank for your site; higher than would ever have been achieved without optimisation.

Your SEO will also optimise each page differently so that the robot will include more than one page in the search engine. For example, if the robot comes to your homepage and it has been optimised and your primary message and keywords on that page were for new tyres then you would hope that when someone uses a keyword search for “new tyres”, your website would be within the first 30 results. But on the other hand, another page of your website may be about wheel alignments. You would certainly hope that another searcher using a search phrase "wheel aligners" would get results pointing to that relevant wheel alignment page.

Your website success is completely determined by effective search engine optimisation . It is pointless investing time and resources developing a website without consideration to how your prospective clients will find you. It is no different to burning $50 notes.

I hope you have found this short article useful and that I have helped you decide on a great SEO company. Of course, there are many more things to watch out for; but you are now aware of the main ones. Keep them in mind and you will get the results you are after.

Want to drive more targeted traffic to your web site?

Want to do it for free?

If you answered "yes" you’re in for a treat. Use the search engine optimization and ranking techniques in this article and you will be well on your way to a front page listing in the major search engines.

Up until now, you’ve been led to believe that search engine optimization and search engine ranking strategies were something better left to an expert. But that’s not true. Any serious marketer can and should learn the simple search engine optimization and ranking techniques that can get his site listed on the first page of the search engines.

Before I begin I want to point out that search engine optimization and ranking strategies fall into two catagories. On page factors and off page factors.

On page factors you have a lot of control over. Things like content, good keywords, and the proper use of anchor text.

Off page factors, like page rank, you’ll have less control over. But it’s important that you exercise as much control as you can over the off page factors as well. These will be discussed in another article.

To get your search engine optimization and ranking strategies right you will need some tools. Some free, some payed. But regardless, if you want your site listed in the top ten results you need these tools.

Search Engine Optimization and Ranking - Tools of the Trade

To begin with, I’m not a big believer in throwing money after unnecessary tools or ebooks. After all, if you bought all the tools some gurus recommend it could easily run into hundreds and even thousands of dollars. So rest assurred, what I recommend are the bare essentials of what you will need to get it right.

The first tool you need is free. At least for now. It’s the Overture Search Term Suggestion Tool. You can find it at http://inventory.overture.com/d/searchinventory/suggestion/

You will use this tool for your keyword research. Let’s say you plan to build a site on dog grooming. Type dog grooming in the suggestion box, click the arrow, and a list of related keywords come up. It also tells you how many searches were conducted on Overture and it’s related sites for the past month. This is valuable information as it tells you which keywords are worth persuing and which don’t get enough searches to be worthwhile. You will want to print out or create a file to store these keywords on your computer because you’re not finished with them yet.

The next tool you need is Wordtracker. Although it’s not free, it is one of the most valuable tools in your arsenal. This tool is not expensive as you can order it for short time frames. Twenty four hours usually runs about $7.00 U.S.

Wordtracker takes your keyword research to the next level. For instance:

find all keywords that bear any relation to your business

tells you how popular the keywords really are in multiple search engines

shows you your chance of making the top ten

shows you the number of times the keyword or phrase has appeared in the data base

shows mispellings on searches that you can capitalize on

shows the number of competing sites

prints out a complete list of selected keywords with KEI analysis, count, hits in 24 hours, and number of competing sites.

This valuable tool will save you countless hours of trial and error trying to find the best keywords and phrases to land you in the top ten.

I once built a site based solely on results from the Overture suggestion tool. To my dismay I had few visitors. When I checked the keywords and phrases with Wordtracker, I found a completly differnt story. Wordtracker showed much lower figures for the keywords I was using from Overture. When I revamped the site using Wordtrackers results I found the search results to be much more accurate.

So use the Overture suggestion tool to get a preliminary set of keywords, then, check them with Wordtracker to identify the best keywords and phrases to build your site around.

Build Your Site Around Search Engine Optimization and Ranking Techniques

When I built my first site I used a cheap software program I purchased from my local office supply store. Needless to say, it was never listed in the search engines. I had little control over the appearance and more than likely it did what it wanted, not what I wanted. So if you intend to build a serious web site to get traffic and make money, stay away from them. I currently use NoteTab Pro. it’s relatively easy to use and gives you a lot of flexibility. Plus it’s relatively inexpensive.

If you are looking for a less expensive way to go I recommend Notetab light. Download a free copy here http://www.notetab.com. Although not as flexible and easy to use as NoteTab Pro, it will get the job done.

Search Engine Optimization and Ranking Power Points

You’ve researched and selected your keywords and phrases. Where do you use them for the best search engine optimization and ranking?

Power Point #1.This is one of the best secrets I can give you. Consider each page of your site to be a doorway into your site. Therefore optimize one keyword or keyword phrase for each page of your site. Many people try to cram multiple keywords into a page. This only confuses the search engines and hurts your rankings.

Power Point#2. Keep your site keywords and pages focused on a common theme. For example: If you have a site about dog grooming, Every page on the site should relate to dog grooming. If you were to ad a page about training your pet snake it wouldn’t fit the theme. So keep all your pages tightly focused on the overall theme of your site. Getting off theme will hurt your rankings.

Power Point #3.Content is king. Give the searh engines what they want and they will give you what you want. A good listing. What they want are highly relevant sites for their search customers with good, valuable content. Methods to trick the search engines are abundant. But when they catch up with you, you’ll be penalized or worse, possibly banned. You don’t want that.

Power point #4. Sprinkle your secondary keywords and phrases throughout your content. When you researched your keywords you came up with a list of primary words and phrases to optimize your pages. You should also have an additional 50 - 100 keywords and phrases that I will call secondary keywords. If you sprinkle these throughout your page it will give you a big boost in the search engines. You’ll be amazed at how many visitors you will recieve from these secondary keyword searches.

Where To Use Your Primary Keywords To Get The Most Impact For Your Search Engine Optimization and Ranking Efforts

Keyword placement, density and proximity are the most important factors when it comes to on page search engine optimization and ranking strategies.

Domain name: Although unproven, some search engine optimization experts recommend your site domain name be your primary keyword or phrase. If I can get a domain with my primary keyword fine. If not, i just try to get a good related name. If you do get a domain with your primary phrase, be sure to seperate the individual words with hyphens. Some search engine optimization experts are now saying that Google can read the keywords even if they are not seperated. I prefer to play it safe and use hyphens. For example: doggrooming.com would be dog-grooming.com. Done this way the search engines can read the individual words.

Page title. It’s best to use your keyword or phrase once in the title of your page. Try to keep it short. Google uses a weighting factor based on the number of words in the title. The more words you use, the less weight each word has. A word of caution here. Don’t just use your keyword phrase. Google will likely consider this spamming and penalize you. Using the same keyword more than once is worth testing, but many experts believe it can hurt your rankings. Try to come up with a good title as this is what your prospects will see on the search engines.

The discription: Again, don’t over use your keyword in your discription. Once or twice is enough. Some search engines will use your discription in their listings so try to develop one that will make the searcher want to click on it.

Heading tags: Header tags are the HTML tags used to make text bigger. Typically they are used for headlines and sub heads. Some search engines use them to determine what a page is about. So try to use your keyword or phrase in your header tags.

Anchor text: This is the text used in a link. When you are linking from one page on your site to another make sure you use your keywords in the link. A good example is your home page. Most people simply put the link as "home." Instead use website promotion strategies home. Get the idea.

Body copy: Try to use your keyword as often as you can in your body copy without sounding repetitive or being obvious. If it doesn’t sound right, it’s probably to much. Work it in wherever it fits. There are no hard and fast rules when it comes to keyword density. Most experts agree that around 7% density is a good figure to shoot for. Avoid continuously repeating the keyword every two or three words. This is considered spamming.

Alt text: This is text used in place of images for those with text only browsers. It also pops up when you hold your mouse over an image. Because search engine spiders can’t read graphics, the alt text tells the spiders what the graphic is. So discribe the graphic but include your keyword.

URL’s: When using URL’s to link your pages together be sure to use your keywords in the link. Just as in the case of domain names, use hyphens to seperate the words so the spiders can read them.

We’ve covered a lot in this article. I’ve given you information that cost me a small fortune to acquire. We covered the tools and editors you will need to do the job right. I gave you power points that most search engine optimization experts don’t want you to know. Then we looked at the on page factors you can control to maximize your search engine optimization and ranking efforts. Keep in mind, this is only half of the equation. There are still off page factors that have a major impact on your search engine optimization strategies.
