In this article you will learn how you can build a Wisconsin top ranking site by first finding the best keywords to optimize your pages for in order for them to rank high in the search engines.

Just to let you know though:

There is no such thing as a guaranteed top search engine ranking for your beloved Wisconsin site. If you want a top 10 position in the search engines you will have to work hard to deserve it.

Do you want to know the real secret behind the fact why there is no such thing as a guaranteed Wisconsin top ranking site?

The answer is simple.

The search engines are in business to make money and they get their daily bread from the advertising dollars that comes when many people use their service.

That means it is in the interest of the top search engines to only list the top sites and pages high in their ranking positions.

That is how they make money, by ranking the most relevant pages high.

So, what do you have to do in order to build your Wisconsin top ranking site?

First you have to pick the most profitable keywords for you to target and that you do by using the Wordtracker service with Google supply.

My opinion is that any other keyword supply and demand service than Wordtracker is a waste of time when building your Wisconsin site. I don’t find their numbers accurate at all and have spent a lot of time in vain optimizing wed pages for those phrases.

When you have at least a hundred profitable keywords or more, it is time to begin building useful content around those top phrases.

And building pages you have to, a whole bunch of them. The more the better, you just have to start writing and the flow will come. When you have your best keywords, writing becomes easy.

When creating your Wisconsin top ranking site just keep in mind though that your content is high quality and that it will benefit your human visitors first and foremost.

Webmasters always anxiously wait for a search engine update. Those who rank well want to see their sites get even better. Those who didn’t do well expect a major boost. Those whose sites get de-indexed anticipate a major comeback. Those who just started new sites bet on their sites will make into the first page of search engine result pages (SERPs) for their targeting keywords. Of course, not everyone will be happy about the results of search engine updates. After all, search engine traffic is a zero-sum game - someone loses and someone gains. Then, the webmasters start preparing for next update.

The Business Reasons Behind The Major Updates

All major search engines claim that they strive to present search results to users with the highest quality. But the business of search engine is business. What they won’t tell us is that there’re many business reasons for every major search engine updates. Search engine traffic is hot commodity - it’s free and has higher conversion rate since the searchers are very close to make their buying decisions. The downside of the search traffic for webmasters is that they don’t have control at all. Your sites may be ranked #1 today, but nowhere next day.

Search engine companies will, no doubt, use the search engine traffic to maximize the values for their stakeholders. Google’s Feb. 2 update (allegra update or Superbowl update) once again shocked the webmaster community like last Florida update. The noticeable change in Superbowl update is that well-established sites rank well even for specific keywords that aren’t even highly relevant to their pages. You may think the move is to fight spams and improve the quality of SERPs. That’s only part of the story. The results of the update is that the websites of well-established corporations (with never ending press releases) will get a major traffic boost from Google. Google does this by algorithm changes, not manual manipulations.

If we think search engine traffic from Google is really an incentive to try it free before you buy. This time, Google decides to lure the major corporations to test the benefits of search traffic. Major corporations will likely increase their spending in online advertising and those news agencies may even drop their law sues against Google if they see the traffic from Google justifies that their sites benefit from including in Google index database.

Is this the real driving force behind last update? Only Google knows. If you own Google, however, you will do the exactly the same.

Will this negatively impact the user experience? - maybe and maybe not. What is the real difference between the #1 spot and the site that ranks #100? - the backlinks. Backlinks don’t alter the quality of a page at all.

When they say technology, they mean business. Major technology changes are always driven by business needs. It has nothing to do with "good" or "bad".

Strategies to Cope with search Engine Updates

The Internet and the Web was once hailed as the new medium and the new opportunity for small business and site owners. They will be disappointed as big three peek into fortune 500 companies’s deep packets. There’re strategies they can use to cope with the search engine updates, however.

1. Create a portfolio of website using different SEO techniques. If some of your sites get hammered in a update the rest may benefit from the update.

2. Generate traffic from all major search engines.

3. Use the search traffic to build loyal user bases.

4. Build sites similar to the sites of well-established companies. The tags, on-page, off page optimization techniques will become less and less important as major corporations aren’t interested in those types of things that geek webmasters are interested.

Speculation on Coming Updates

The next Google update is around the corner. I won’t expect any noticeable change. If Google decides to let big apples try search traffic free. They will need a couple of months to realize the values of the search traffic.

There will be major re-distribution of search traffic in 3 or 6 months. If the same group of major corporations always get huge amount of free traffic from Google. They won’t bother to open their wallets. The major traffic distribution may be from one group of major corporations to another. The search traffic will unlikely sift back to small sites.

Here you will get a simple, but useful tip on how to improve your ranking for your Wisconsin top rank site even more. No need for any specific search engine optimization!

By now you should actually already know this, but since it is so important we will cover it one more time.

The best way to improve the number of free search engine visitors to your Wisconsin top rank site is not by trying optimizing your existing page more. The best way to improve the number of traffic from the engines to your Wisconsin site simply is to write more quality articles about Wisconsin.

Since search engine algorithms change over time, I say that it is a bad idea to tweak and optimize pages that are already ranking well. Build more pages around keyword phrases you haven’t targeted before and you most likely will see an improvement in your already high traffic stats.

Building more pages for new Wisconsin phrases will give you more chances to be found in the search engines. Also, if the phrases you target are less competitive your chances to rank high will increase.

I know that many of you already rank high with your Wisconsin sites, but if you don’t, the only way to get a Wisconsin top ranking site is to add content.

So, don’t delay any more.

Get those keyboards working for you, because there are no shortcuts and you always get what you deserve.

Generating high traffic to your web site can be costly, or not, depending on time and effort you commit to the business.

One of the easiest, least expensive and most effective ways to get visitors is via a concept called ‘Keyword Density’.

Mini Site Profits by Phil Wiley was my first and most valuable introduction to keyword density and would eventually become the focus of my online marketing campaigns.

Wiley tells how many search engines spider the Internet for sites containing keywords similar to those someone has just keyed into a search engine. The more times those words appear on your site - conditionally - the more chance you’ll get that high ranking.

But search engines aim for relevance, too, so a site actually bearing little relevance to specific terms might rank high for a short while, until human editors come in, check it out, then abandon the site as irrelevant to their customers.

It’s all about ‘content’ which for our purposes means useful articles, information and advice which search engines consider valuable to their customers, rather than pages packed with advertisements and little else (unless they’re getting paid for it via pay per click promotions, of course!).

For example, ‘sex’ is a hot topic on the Internet and the subject of millions of searches every month. How wonderful for your site to appear to everyone searching for ‘sex’ - (one day I will rephrase that) - who happens upon pages offering discount holidays, printer refill cartridges, golf clubs, pencils, but not sex!

The point is, anyone using specific techniques to lift their own non-sex-related site high on the listings when someone keys ‘sex’ into search engines will soon be exposed and probably banned for life from most search engine listings. By ‘techniques’ I mean pasting the word ‘sex’ all over the background of your site selling lawn mowers, or calling your site ‘Everything to Do with Sex’ when your site bears no relevance at all to the ‘S’ word.

Here are a few ways to use keyword density to increase your chance of a higher ranking over site owners who don’t try quite so hard:

  • Choose a domain name containing words and phrases most commonly searched for by your target audience. The site for my mystery shopping book, for example, is www.mystery-shopping.org.uk. Other examples from my own collection, with titles, articles, domain names based on keyword density: www.smartbackpacker.com, www.smartpublisher.net, www.resell-rights.net.
  • Include your best key words and phrases in page titles, for both the home page and all additional pages. My mystery shopping site has pages entitled: Get Paid to Shop or Even Start Your Own Mystery Shopping Business, Travel Free, Get Paid to Play Golf, and articles entitled: Start Your Own Mystery Shopping Business, Get Paid to Shop and Keep Everything You Buy Without Having to Pay! Those titles came, not surprisingly, because ‘Get Paid to Shop’ and ‘Start Mystery Shopping Business’ are common terms used by people seeking products like mine.
  • Descriptions, keyword entries and metatags used when designing your site should also contain some of the most common terms used by your target audience. For a dating agency, the keywords might be ‘dating’, ‘dating agency’, ‘online dating’, and so on.
  • It might be beneficial to use key words in titles for pictures and graphics used on your site. For example, my site www.boxerdog.biz has several pictures of cute boxer dogs, all mine, with gifs labelled boxerdog1, boxerdog2, boxerdog3, and so on. Beneath each picture there’s a caption including the phrase ‘boxer dog’. One of my first excursions into keyword analysis showed the term ‘boxer dog’ is keyed into search engines around 46,000 times every month. Not only that, but I love boxer dogs, and can think of nothing more delightful than marketing products for them and their two-legged friends. But, realistically, editors might consider my graphics titles a bit OTT (Over The Top) and this could adversely affect my rankings. I shall just have to wait and see!
  • Have articles uploaded to your own and other people’s sites. Search engines love articles and other chunks of useful information to benefit their customers, making articles one of the very best ways to lift your site high in search engine rankings. Again, use your keywords in page headings and article titles to further increase your chances, as I did for www.boxerdog.biz which includes articles called The Boxer Dog Who Cheated Death Row and Became a Television Star Instead, The Boxer Dog With the Longest Tongue, The Boxer Dog Who Received Hate Mail. Make sure the articles contain links back to your main web site, the one you want people to visit, and try to include those same articles on other sites to increase links to your main site which might also attract visitors to your site.

Here you will learn a few things about search engine ranking and Wisconsin optimization for all your Wisconsin related keywords.

In this article we are assuming that you already have identified the top and high profitable keywords about Wisconsin.

Should you not yet have picked the phrases you want to rank high for in the search engine’s ranking, you can learn how to do that in other articles in this series.

Now forward with the Wisconsin optimization improvement lesson:

When writing your Wisconsin content articles, always include your main Wisconsin keyword in the site’s title. You can do this once or twice since search engine algorithms change over time.

I also add it once or twice to vary the language more.

Include the phrase you want to rank high for in your H1 tag as well as in the opening paragraph in the main body.

For the body text I never stick with the same keyword density, because I don’t think the top engines find this a very natural behavior. We always want to keep it natural, interesting and on topic for the search engines and foremost your visitors.

When working on your search engine ranking and Wisconsin optimization, you might also want to put your keyword phrase in the last paragraph as well.

I do that often, but not always.

The most important thing about search engine ranking for your Wisconsin site is to keep the language and subject interesting for your visitor.

Do this and you should be fine and on top of the search engine rankings.

Achieving a top ranking position in Google is every webmasters dream. Unfortunately very few ever make it high enough for it to make a big difference on their traffic volume. If you are one of the few to make it onto the Top 10 list, you have probably found out that your listing doesn’t always stay on top. So, besides all the other advice online, it is also extremely important to under stand your competition, and to properly use their key words to your advantage. This article is the conclusion in a 2 part series. In part 1 we looked at how to effectively use Google rankings in helping us better understand our competitors. Part 2 will discuss how to maximize and use Google Suggest to determine the frequency of various key word searches.

    http://www.google.com/webhp?complete=1&hl=en

As discussed in before, not only is it important to find out how your competitors rank for a certain term in Google, but it is also perhaps even more important to find out how many times that specific phrase has been searched for. Google Suggest Beta is the perfect answer for this problem. Just type in a few words and it will immediately display multiple results for that specific term, and variations of it.

***Hint*** Remember, it is not always necessary to have a top 10 listing for the most popular searched phrase. Just imagine the potential of having 5 top listings for keywords that are not quite as popular. Not only will it be easier to achieve a top 10 listing, but while all your competitors fight over 1-3 key words, you are capitalizing on all the others. In the end this will mean a literal financial windfall depending on your product, etc.

Just hold on, we’re not done yet. It is also important to pinpoint your key words even farther, and most people always seem to miss this step. Use the same keyword(s) in Google Suggest, but this time place apostrophes around the term and hit “submit”. This time you will find out how many competing sites exist for that exact phrase, not just every word in your phrase.

For instance the phrase – Natural Acne Cure shows 796,000 results However, now do a search for “Natural Acne Cure” as of today it shows 9,820 results.

In the end, if you can find a specific term that ranks 5000 or less, you have an excellent chance of receiving a higher ranking within Google once you start marketing and implementing successful strategies to maximize your specific key word.

Remember, while the marketing and promotion, and “how to’s” are extremely important, you must always start with the correct keywords first, and properly understand your competition or else you will fail before you ever begin. Or at the very least, you will be climbing a mountain of adversity instead of a leisurely stroll in obtaining your first Top 10 ranking.

Website owners and webmasters who are trying to improve their search engine ranking by trading links with other sites should beware of being cheated. Beware of link cheating. What is link cheating?

Link cheating is when the other party in a link exchange does not live up to the bargain and does not add your link to his site. Link cheating can happen when you add someone else’s link on your site first, then submit your link info, and assume that they will reciprocate and add your link to their site. What often happens is they don’t add your link. And you end up with a one-way link, giving a link and getting none in return, improving someone else’s search engine ranking and not yours. Link cheating. Even worse, you end up wasting a lot of your valuable webmaster time and energy for nothing. And, often, you won’t even know it. You may not know you are the victim of link cheating or may not find out your link was never added to the other site until weeks or months later! Because link cheaters don’t email you telling you your link has been added to their site and they don’t email you telling you they have decided not to add your link (for whatever reason). They will just take advantage of the one-way benefit of you linking to them. Link cheating.

How can you protect yourself from link cheating? As a webmaster, protecting yourself from link cheating is very time consuming and frustrating. Of course, you can check every site you linked to and see if your link has been added to that site. This is very time consuming, even with a "link checker" tool, and you may not find your link even if it is there! Or, if you don’t find your link you can follow up with a polite email. And, if you don’t get a response within a week or two, you can remove their link from your website. Unfortunately, by then you’ve been promoting the other site(s) for a month or more and getting zero in return. Link cheating.

Link cheating costs trusting webmasters, trying to build their website ranking, a lot of time and a lot of irritation. A lot of time adding links, submitting links, checking links and, ultimately, a lot of irritation removing links which don’t reciprocate. One website owner became so fed up with link cheating (20 times in 2 weeks) that he changed his reciprocal link policy. DestinyFinders.com no longer will add a link to their site unless their link is added first, and confirmed to them by email. They promise to then add your link provided it is deemed suitable and acceptable. And they will no longer be a victim of link cheating, by avoiding sites who force you to use those automated you-go-first-but-we-don’t-have-to-reciprocate link management programs. Many of these are good programs but they are being abused by bad webmasters.

As for the link cheaters, in the interest of internet honesty and fair play, webmasters who offer a reciprocal link exchange should abide by the agreement. If someone links to you you should honor the link exchange and reciprocate. That means adding the other party’s link to your site. Or, if you have decided not to reciprocate at least have the professional courtesy to email the other party stating that their link has not been accepted.

Link cheating is reaching epidemic proportions and appears to be on the rise. And there appears to be no easy cure. But here’s some good advice for website owners and webmasters who wish to trade links … beware … be aware … and don’t cheat.

Maya Pinion is a freelance writer and contributing editor for News4Net. DestinyFinders.com is credited with coining the term "link cheating".

Welcome to yet another article in our series about how improvement in your search engine optimization can get you a top 10 search engine ranking for Wisconsin related phrases.

As always, please remember that it is not guaranteed that you ever will see a top 10 ranking in the search engines, but below you will find a few tips that many of today’s webmasters use to improve their search rank.

First, the search engines enjoy when you keep your site’s theme as narrow as possible. This makes it easier for the search engines to tell what your site is about and to show the most relevant page high in the ranking.

For example, if you are aiming for a top 10 search engine ranking for Wisconsin related phrases, build a page per phrase. Then build another page around another keyword phrase.

Just keep building content to your site. This has worked for me and many other webmasters and it might work for you as well.

Second, get a bunch of good incoming links to your site.

Personally I don’t engage in link swapping so much anymore, since I believe that the top search engines see this as a cheap try to spam the engines. Besides, those link pages rarely add any true value to your visitors.

What you should consider is to build good enough content so that other sites natural will want to link to you. I believe that this optimization strategy will work for a long time, but just remember that you have to keep your visitors in mind first, search engines second.

The top engines want sites to be natural and that is also a good reason for not growing your inbound links to fast.

    Third and final:

Keep writing new, related and optimized content articles all the time. The more content you feed the engines; the more likely you are to improve your ranking enough to get into the top 10 for a bunch of keyword phrases.

    For example:

To earn yourself a top 10 search engine ranking for Wisconsin related phrases you need to build articles about green Wisconsin gadget, red Wisconsin gadgets and so on.

Make sure that the search engines understand that your site is about Wisconsin and eventually you will have improved your rankings enough for a top 10 search engine ranking for Wisconsin related phrases.
