In order to design a website that performs well with the search engines, it is very important to give the search engines what they want. You’ll want to find out what search engines index and what they do not in order to have your pages returned as a result. Consider the following strategies to get your web page noticed as frequently as possible.

Strategy #1 - Keywords

To most search engines, keywords are vitally important. Because of this you will want to pay special attention to keywords and how they play a role in your website and ultimately search engine results. Do some research to find the keywords that are most important to your products, services, and what your website is all about. Then, construct copy using the keywords, being sure to include the keywords in the title and near the top of the article. By doing this, you will be sure to gain a high ranking with the search engines that give more consideration to keywords.

Strategy #2 - Don’t Spam

Be sure to know the rules and regulations of search engines in order to get a high ranking, increased traffic, and ultimate success. One major rule most search engines big and small adhere to is no spamming. If you do spam you will more than likely be blacklisted from the search engines indexes which means your URL will not be returned as a result for people’s searches regarding your website, and in turn you will receive little traffic if any at all. Be sure you do not engage in spamming and be clear about what the search engines consider spamming so you do not risk being blacklisted.

Strategy #3 - No Frames

Frames cause problems for a lot of search engines and as a result most search engines do not include web pages with frames in their indexes. To avoid this make sure you develop a website that has a unique URL for each page within your website. The money you might save from building a web page with frames will backfire because you will not get traffic. Do whatever you must do to exclude frames from your website and then watch the traffic increase on a daily basis.

There are plenty of things you can do to increase your success of your website, however these three particular strategies are guaranteed to help you, increase your traffic, and ultimately sales. Don’t let another day pass by without employing these strategies and increasing your website traffic.

Getting your website listed in the search engines is relatively easy if you submit it, but even if you don’t you can still get your website indexed by the larger search engines by following a few simple tips. The reason for this is the search engines spiders search the web on a daily basis looking for new websites to index, old ones that are no longer valid, and the like. So, if you follow these simple steps, the search engines spiders will pick up your website and index it without you even having to submit it. As a matter of fact, you will generally see your website appear in the search engines faster by simply using other methods to get listed instead of submitting your URL. Follow these suggestions and the spiders will pick up your site when they are out making their rounds.

Tip #1 - Links

Links to your web page on the Internet basically tell the search engines how popular your website is. So, if you have tons of links, your website will be considered very popular and as a result be ranked well with the search engines. The fewer links you have makes your site less popular so if you want the search engines to index your site without submitting it, make sure you have a lot of websites linking to you.

Tip #2 - Keywords

Keywords are another thing the search engines look for and you’ll want to include them on your website. The more relevant keywords you have on your website in meta tags, titles, and the beginnings of paragraphs, the quicker your site will get ranked well for your desired search phrases.

Tip #3 - No Frames

If you really want the search engines to pick up your site without you having to submit it, you better be sure you have a website that does not use frames. The reason for this is that websites using frames create problems for the search engines and a lot of times the site is not recognized, not to mention indexed. Avoid frames at all costs because the search engines hate them… there really is no use for them.

Tip #4 - Fully Constructed

You will also need to make sure that your website is fully constructed with no pages still under construction or waiting to be completed. You may not get indexed by the search engines with an "under construction" website because they only want to index complete web sites that are ready for visitors.

Whether you are starting a new business or operating on a budget, you cannot go wrong with free web promotion. The truth is that not everyone has an expense account to justify an aggressive advertising campaign. Many businesses, especially web-based, outline marketing as their largest expense. However, free web promotion has changed the way that everyone looks at advertising.

The best way to gain free web promotion is through the use of press releases, which highlight upcoming news, events and headlines regarding your company. In order to write an effective press release, your business must be involved in something noteworthy. Whether it be a contest, a grand opening, a special sale or other event, a press release is the perfect way to advertise your business happenings for free. There are a number of press release submission websites, which allow business owners to submit their news for free. In addition, submitting your press release to newspaper and magazine editors may increase your chances of being published both online and in print. Before sending a press release, which should be no more than one page in length, make sure that your name, mailing address and telephone number is included at the top of the page. Many editors require that contact information be present before they will even consider publishing a press release. The reasoning behind this is to confirm the identity of the person submitting the news.

Web promotion can perhaps best be utilized through successful positioning on internet search engines. By making sure that your website content is rich with information, links and updated information, search engines will be more likely to position your site among the top ranks. In addition, a descriptive website will also find it’s way to the top. For example, if your business deals with collectibles, make sure that your content is rich in keywords dealing with collectibles and the product line that you offer. Avoid stuffing keywords, but make sure that your website clearly indicates it’s subject matter.

One of the best avenues for web promotion is through article marketing. While many website owners are still somewhat unfamiliar with this approach, others are cashing in on a surge of traffic generated from properly marketing their articles. The key to successful web promotion via article marketing is to write an informative article that everyone will want to read. At the bottom of the article, include a brief paragraph featuring your name, the name of your business and a website address. The next step is to submit your article to as many article directories as possible. The more exposure, the better. As other webmasters log on to article directories in search of content for their website, they may select your article to be featured on their site. The more webmasters that feature your work, the more free web promotion your business will receive.

There are a number of ways to acquire paid marketing opportunities and an equal, or greater, number of ways to get free web promotion. If done correctly, web promotion doesn’t have to empty the entire expense account. In some cases, it won’t even cost you a cent.

For better search engines ranking and permanent back links you can also submit your web sites to AgoraFind.com web directory, AllFinancialSites.com finance directory and AllLawSites.com law directory.

Value of Internet

According to China Internet Network Information Centre (CNNIC), number of Internet users in China is more than 103,000,000 in 2005.

More than half of Chinese Internet users were below 25 years of age. Out of the total, 32 per cent are students, 12 per cent are professionals and nine per cent are from business and service sectors.

People use Internet mostly for email, reading news and searching for information via search engines. Online shopping spending in China in 2005 was around RMB 9 billions, and will rise to RMB 30 billions in 2007. You can expect there will be a doubled growth in the subsequent years.

With the above figures, business persons must understand the value of using Internet to explore China market. Search engine marketing should be the most cost-effective method to reach Chinese Internet users.

China Region

In fact, China region does not only refer to the Mainland of China. You may also be aware of Hong Kong and Taiwan. Interestingly, Chinese in these 3 different areas have very different cultures due to their historical backgrounds. Even in the Mainland, people from different provinces speak totally different accents of Chinese languages and also differ in their daily life practices. For example, people in GuangDong and Hong Kong usually speak Cantonese. They speak Mandarin only when they talk with people from other provinces. Moreover, people in Mainland and Taiwan are usually not that good in English. Yet in Hong Kong, many people can speak and read English well. Therefore, you must notice the differences in order to write effective website copies to cater for different China Region readers.

Another important thing to note is that people from Hong Kong, Taiwan, GuangDong, Shanghai and Beijing usually have a higher spending power.

Search Engines in China

Major search engines in China include Baidu, Google, Sina and Yahoo. According to a study by CNNIC, Baidu has 51.5% market share, Google has 32.9%, Sina has 4% and Yahoo has 3.7%. Just based on the above figures, you may think that it should be most appropriate to spend most of your effort in Baidu and Google, right? The answer is "Yes or No. It depends!" Why?

This is because China Region is large and with complicated cultural differences. It is difficult for you to target the whole China Region unless you have millions of budget. If you are small to medium sized companies, decide your target region and focus on it first. For example, if you choose Hong Kong as your target market, I can tell you Yahoo Hong Kong is the most frequently used search engine and no almost one uses Baidu in Hong Kong!

Another point worthwhile to mention is that Google is rated the best search engine in China and the rating means a highly probable translation to its future growth in market share, according to a study made by Keynote Systems.

Paid Search Engine Marketing

Popularity in paid search engine marketing (pay-per-click) in China is increasing. Baidu, Yahoo and Google have their own programs. In order to succeed in a complicated region, search engines mainly rely on agents to sell their pay-per-click marketing. Pay-per-click is a new concept in China, and people there think it is too far too complicated. Therefore, agents usually sell paid search engine marketing by monthly flat rate according to the different schemes. It is somewhat different with the western world.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

Search engine optimization is quite a new concept in China but acceptance of this concept is increasing. Currently, there are many black-hat spammers and white-hat optimizers in the country. In China, people usually optimize for Google and Yahoo only, and use paid search engine marketing for Baidu.

The link building process in China region is somewhat different with the western world. Link exchange is uncommon in Hong Kong and Taiwan. It is far more popular in the Mainland. However, the link format is quite different. First, high quality links are usually obtained from personal/ business relationships. Second, reciprocal link format in the western world is usually composed of a Title with hyperlink and description of site but in Mainland, it is only composed of Title with hyperlink. Seems like a link farm? However, it is a common practice in China. Therefore, obtaining meaningful links in China region is no easy task.

Key Factor in Chinese Search Engine Marketing

Many people make a common mistake. Their websites do not have a Chinese version but they want to promote their website in the Mainland and in Taiwan. English may be their mother language but it is not a mother language for Chinese. To succeed, you must have a Chinese version. In addition, you need to notice that traditional Chinese is used in Hong Kong and Taiwan while simplified Chinese is used in Mainland. Sometimes, wordings used in Hong Kong, Taiwan and Mainland are also different from each other.

If you are serious in getting online sales from Chinese but are not familiar with their languages and cultures, you had better use an Internet marketing company located in the China Region to help you.

The submission process is merely telling that search engine that a site exists and has nothing to do with rankings that in the search results.

The process of submission is a lot different from Search Engine Optimization.

Before you submit the sites make sure that site is ready for submissions:

· Complete all the pages. Leave no “under construction” sign.

· Validate all the links.

· Complete the Search Engine Optimization.

· Test the page compatibility with all search engines.

· Use Robots.txt or Robots META Tags to prevent pages you want hidden from being indexed.

· If your site is an e-commerce site, test your ordering process or shopping cart for bugs.

· Google “web site usability” should be used to test usability.

Prepare a Text File/Spreadsheet:

This will help you while submitting the site. It is to keep all required info in one place.

Write the following in the file/spreadsheet:

· Your website’s main URL

· The URLs for other pages on your site

· Your site’s Title (the name of your site as you want it listed in engines)

· A short description of your page/site content (Around 20 words)

· A long description of your page/site content (Just 40 words)

· A list of target keywords for your page/site

· Name of person doing the submissions

· Email address of above person

· Address and contact details of your company (some directories may ask for this)

If you are using a spreadsheet you can also use a date/remarks column to keep track of the key points of submitting the site.

Steps to submit the site:

First check if the pages you wish to submit are already indexed or not? If they are there is no good reason to do so again and again. Different engines follow different ways to submit the site.

Site Submission at Yahoo:

Yahoo is basically a directory of websites. It takes around two to six weeks to get listed in Yahoo. Yahoo has different categories where in some are free while some are paid. The paid ones are priced at $299.If you find your desired category as free Bingo!! Just go ahead and do the submissions. Else you may need to buy it. In case you have made a wrong submission the Human Editors will modify or edit it.

Submitting to Google:

Google is not only the number one search engine on the net but also the best in crawling through all the websites on the web. Currently it crawls through almost 4 billion websites adding to its already huge database. If you are not sure whether your site is indexed or nor just type in your URL and search. It takes almost 60 days for Google to index or re index the pages and add to its database.

Currently there is no Pay per Inclusion programme present for the site submission.

Submitting to Global Business Listing:

A Pay Per inclusion search engine, Global business Listing, it is rather very economical and may help you place your site amongst the very first results in Google also.

Currently numbered four in the Google listings for Food Growers, Luxury Car Dealers and Pharmaceutical Industry Manufacturers, it is a reliable way t o get better listings.

With a listing it also offers discounted web hosting service as apart of the package. Also come to links to your website thereby improving the page rank of the site.

Submitting to Alta Vista:

Now the paid submissions are faster then the free ones for this Search Engine. They require typing some graphical numbers and characters while submission top avoid the automatic submission engines from cluttering the database. It usually takes 2- 4 weeks to finally index the site.

The submission process can be free and paid also. The paid one is faster then the free one. To start the paid one, one needs to fix a budget that will be spent on the whole process.

To start with, get the Yahoo listings by paying an annual membership. This will get you a placement in the Yahoo’s human-compiled directory.

After submissions, just concentrate on the content of site ands wait for at least 60 days. As they say all the good things to those who wait, you will discover joys of getting good placement in the rankings, after this time only.

Once you have your web site complete and ready to be listed you need to take a slow step by step approach to get listed in the search engines. If you do it right the first time and then build on that formula, your profits and your site will benefit in the long run. Those willing to spend the time and put these techniques into practice are the ones that will benefit and are more likely to be successful.

1. Your first page is where search engines will start and making sure that this page is fully optimized is one of your first goals. What’s optimization your ask? It’s making your site as search engine friendly as possible. You will also see people refer to this in the short form of SEO.

Your first step is the TITLE TAG. This is one item that search engines look for to start getting information about what your site is about. It is also what search engines will show above a clickable line on their results page. It is also a major consideration of where you will rank when certain inquiries are made of the search engine. TITLE TAGS are one of the major things to concentrate on and to make sure that you get it right. Doing so will result in not only better placement in the search engine, but enticing descriptions will also result in more people clicking on your link and visiting your site.

Take a look at what your competition is doing in order to get some ideas for your site. To see their TITLE TAG go to their web site and in IE or Netscape click on View then Source and you will be able to see their TITLE TAG. Don’t copy theirs, but let this help you get some ideas for your own site.

2. Putting keyword phrases into your pages - Finding the perfect set of keywords for your web pages and knowing the right keywords to use is very important because your site should provide people with what they are looking for. A free program to help you can be found at: http://www.goodkeywords.com Good Keywords makes use of various tools provided by search engines like Yahoo, Google, Teoma and other services like Alexa. Using Good Keywords makes it all very simple, fast and straight forward. Just remember…don’t over do it or you will be penalized.

3. Writing your web page copy - Your next step is to incorporate those keywords into the copy on your web site. This is extremely important as search engines need to see these keywords on your page so they can then analyze these words and decide where your site should be listed in their categories. Write your content around the keywords and use them as many times as possible, keeping in mind though…that it is not just a search engine that is reading the copy but also your visitor.

4. META TAGS - Meta tags provide search engines with information about the content and purpose of a Web site. A Web site that uses meta tags to the best of their ability will appear more often in search results and will also be seen closer to the top on those search results. Many people feel that stuffing keywords into the meta tags will help improve their rankings. The original idea behind meta tags was to give a way to classify the web site. The problem now is that many engines don’t consider meta tags to be as relevant to the ranking, therefore they give them less weight overall because of the keyword stuffing techniques used. That’s not to say that you still shouldn’t use meta tags, just consider to use them for what they were originally intended - that is to give your site an accurate title and description with a few keywords (3 or 4 phrases max) outlining what the page, or site is about.

5. ALT TAGS - The ALT tag or ‘alternative text’ is an attribute of the IMG tag. (Any graphic on your web site) An ALT tag should be included for every image within your web site. The ALT tag provides an alternate message to your viewers who can’t see your graphics. Without ALT tags, images on a web site are meaningless to these users. If you will be using a graphic menu systems for navigation, these alternate messages are an especially important aid to users without the ability to see your graphics. Adding an appropriate ALT tag to every image within your web site will make a huge difference to the accessibility of your web site. Also, for those who use Yahoo and Google image searches, your ALT Tags can be very important and will help bring traffic to your site. Take for instance one of my sites - http://www.spasoftheworld.com I have loads of graphics of different resort spas and the graphics all carry the name of the resort. People looking for information on this resort may easily end up at my website because I names a picture with the name of the resort.

On the reverse side, ALT TAG stuffing, which is using the tags in an image to hide keywords will rarely help a site’s position. If you can insert a key phrase into the image description then by all means do so. Remember that Alt tags do usually count towards your overall keyword density so it’s better to have relevant keyword alt tags rather than something like "image01.gif".

6. Linking - with more search engines coming online every day, search engines are looking for ways to serve quality links to visitors. This is where linking to other sites and having them link to you becomes important to both you and the search engine. People who assume that the more inbound links to them will help them, are very wrong. This may have been true at one time but not today. Search engines need to give quality results. One way they have of rating your site is by the quality of inbound links to your site. Therefore sites that are closely related to your site and that link to you will help boost your popularity in search engines. With Google this is a huge issue in how you rank with them. Having a hundred links from all sorts of site may result in hurting your ranking and you may be viewed as a link farm.

7. Spiders - A search engine is a database that has been put together by spiders. Spiders scour the Internet going through pages and recording information available on web pages. Spiders then give the information to the database and the database feeds the results. Theoretically, the web site should show up in the search results the next time the engine updates. It is important that all links on your site be active. A dead link may prevent a spider from doing your entire site.

8. Robots Text file - Search engines will look in your root domain for a special file named "robots.txt" (http://www.mydomain.com/robots.txt). The file tells the robot (spider) which files it may spider (download). This system is called, The Robots Exclusion Standard.

9. FLASH - This has to be one of the top mistakes a web site owner can do to hurt their search engine rangkings. Good content will win over flash every time and getting visitors to your site is what you are trying to accomplish. The only thing the search engines will be able to see when visiting a site where the first page is all flash are the title tags and links. In most cases that will not be enough. Over and over it’s content rich pages that will get you the rankings you need. You may have to decide between getting a high ranking or having a "pretty" entry page. Remember that you goal is customers and sales. It might be kewl the first time you visit the site but when you have to go there over and over again it becomes very annoying not to mention that people on dialup must cringe when faced with such a page. They often give up because of the length of time it takes to load.

10. Don’t expect results overnight. It takes time to get your ranking up there, even with paid inclusion. You may start out with a low ranking when you are first listed but as you continue to optimize your site and build "relevant" links you will start to see a gradual climb. As you wait for your rise to the top, concentrate on building as many relevant links as possible. Beside increasing your ranking you will be surprised at the number of referrals that you will received from those linked pages.

We all want to get our websites high up in the search enignes but how do you do it? One thing you shouldn’t bother doing is submit your site to any search engines. Not Google, not Yahoo!, not AltaVista. Sound a bit strange? Read on…

Submitting to all the search engines

Submitting your website to every search engine is an incredibly time-consuming process. There are hundreds and hundreds of them out there - no doubt, you’ve come across the companies who’ll submit your website to 1000 search engines for you.

Search engine professionals know that the vast majority of these search engines have a very low usage rate and will drive hardly any traffic your way. In fact, it’s only a handful of search engines that drive the majority of traffic from search engines to websites.

The major search engines

Some of the most important search engines, probably accounting for over 90% of the search engine market, are:

- Google
- Yahoo! (released earlier this year)
- MSN
- Teoma
- Fast
- AltaVista

Don’t submit to these search engines

"But there’s only six of them - why on earth not!?" Well, aside from saving time and a bit of money (some require a submission fee), quite simply there’s no need. Allow me to explain…

Search engines crawl the web every few weeks (or months) looking for websites to index. Here’s how it works:

- Search engines start at one website with a large number of outbound links (usually a directory)

- They follow every link they come across, indexing each page they arrive at

- Once a page has been indexed they follow all the links from that page

- And so on until there are no more links to follow

- Unless today is your very first day on the Internet, you might have heard that inbound links into a website are extremely important in establishing its search engine ranking.

If a search engine can’t find you by itself through crawling the web, then your website doesn’t have any inbound links. If so, you’ll never achieve a decent search engine ranking so what’s the point in registering?

Getting incoming links quickly

So, how do you get incoming links? Well, this is a vast topic which I won’t be discussing now, but if you want to get a few good links quickly then there is a solution: web directories. If your website is listed in the Yahoo! directory (http://dir.yahoo.com, not the same as Yahoo! search) and the Open Directory (http://www.dmoz.org, used by Google) all the search engines should find you within two to three months.

There are plenty of other directories you should get listed in too. Global, local and industry-specific directories abound on the Internet. To find them run a search for ‘web directory’ on your favorite search engine. The directories that come up highest in the search rankings will probably generate the most traffic. You can also check the directories of directories listed at the end of this article.

Another even quicker solution is webmaster forums. Search engines love forums because they include so much fresh content. Most have an area where you’re allowed to enter your URL to get feedback from other webmasters. http://www.webmasterforumlist.com has a list of webmsater forums - sign up to them all and get posting!

Long term strategy

Search engine optimisation is a long term strategy. You’ll be successful if you:

- Structure your pages correctly by positioning your keywords in effective places

- Build a great site with unique content that other websites will want to link

Register with as many web directories as possible and then concentrate your efforts on these two things. Within a few months you’ll start to see success.

Directories of directories:

When you want your brand new site to be indexed into major search engines, you usually go to their free submit page and submit your website, correct? Seems like the right thing to do, right?

Well, many people fail to realize that not submitting your site is usually better than actually submitting it.

Let, me explain.

All the search engines, or the MAJOR ones, for our discussion here have what are called webcrawlers. Now, webcrawlers are little programs that go out onto the web and search or "crawl" around looking for websites that are not already indexed into their databases.

Google search engine is a well-known engine that does this, its webcrawler "GOOGLEBOT" crawls the web looking for "non-existent" sites that are not in their index(database). To see evidence of this, look at your stats for your website and see if Googlebot has crawled your site lately, chances are it has.

– Start SideNote –
My personal experience indicates that Google actually prefers this method, crawling and indexing, rather than using their Free Submit page.
– End SideNote –

Basically if you wanna get your site indexed into Google and the Major search engines, simply post it and wait,… I realize this seems like a weird or bad idea, but take my word for it,… IT WORKS.

Another idea is that, if you already have a site that is indexed already in Google, simply put a small link to your new site toward the top of the page thats already indexed and when Google crawls your already indexed site it will automatically index your new site, since it has yet to be indexed. Easy huh?

A site map can do the same thing. In order to get all your webpages for your new site indexed simply link your sitemap of your new site as above, and when it crawls your existing site, it will index all the pages of your new site, via your sitemap.

Two points to always note: Link all your important pages into a sitemap, important pages first, and link to another already existent site, and let the major engines find your pages on their own, via webcrawling.

NOTE: The above works for FREE search engines that have crawlers, Google for example. See my previous article I wrote last week on PPC and PPI.

We all know that in order to get customers to your site, you need to market it. You need to get the word out that your site is there and it’s got the products or information for your customers. Here I am, come and get me! But, how to do this is the question. One of the most effective ways is to use a search engine as a tool. More and more search engines are the ways people find websites that they visit. Once they are there, your products or information will sell itself!

Search engine submission software can help you do this. By submitting your site to search engines, you will be there when someone does a search using the keywords you set up for that website or webpage. Again, the goal is to get the customer to the site. Some of these software programs can help while others may prove to be useless. Here’s a reason why. When you, yourself want to search for something on the net, where do you go? Do you use Google? Yahoo? More than likely you do. The question is, does the software you plan to spend your hard earned money on include these popular search engines?

The website software submission software claims to submit your site to many different sites. Often some of these are free for all sites or sites that generally generate no traffic besides submissions like these. So, what good does that do you? When you decide to purchase this type of software ensure that it will submit your site to useful search engines, ones that will be used and will generate traffic to your site.

By all means, having your website automatically submitted to hundreds of search engines is a great thing. But, make sure that where your site is going is actually something that will increase your hits. Do this by researching just where it is being submitted to.

This is the first in a series of tutorials designed to assit you improve your website positioning and search engine ranking in top search engines such as Google, Yahoo and MSN. In this tutorial we will be looking at website submission which includes the correct way to perform manual website submission, website submission to targeted catagories, reciprocal linking and avoiding website submission mistakes which could harm your website position in search engine ranking.

Website submission is, at its name implies, submission of your website to search engines and directories in order for your website to be easily found by targeted internet users. You can use various techniques to submit your website to search engines which will assist in you achieving high search engine ranking in top search engines. We will concentrate on three positive website submission methods: Manual website submission, Automanted website submission and One way linking to targeted websites and search engines.

Manual Website Submission.

Manual website submission consists of you contacting search engines and directories, directly and including your website URL into the human editors or robots crawl bank. Manual website submission is generally the only form of website submission acceptable to top search engines such as Google, Yahoo and MSN for you to be included in their search engines. Directories such as DMOZ and Zeal also rely on manual website submission in order for their editors to view and possibly list your website in their pages.

Each search engine and directory has their own specifications for manual website submission. MSN and Yahoo require you only to input your website URL, while Google asks you also to include some keywords relevant to your website (we will look at keywords directly in tutorial 3).

Directory submission is a little different to search engine submission in that a number of concise details are needed in order for successful inclusion into their pages. DMOZ requires a brief description of your website when submitting and Zeal asks for both content and keywords when applying a manual submission. When submitting your website into directories, it is vital that you chose a catagory relevant to your website’s content in order to even be considered for inclusion. It is best to research the directory subjects until you find the absolute perfect catagory for your website. For example, if your website offers a specific service in a specific region, let us say a florist in South London, find a catagory which details your service and location such as : "Regional: Europe: United Kingdom: Business and Economy: Agriculture and Forestry: Horticulture: Flowers and Floristry" rather than "Shopping: Flowers: Florist". Once you have found your targeted catagory you now need to submit your website for the human editors to review. When submitting your website description, be very specific of your content and keep in mind the catagory you are submitting to. Using our example site, a good description would be "London florist stocking flowers for all occassions. Floral gift baskets and arrangments for weddings, anniversaries and special holidays." Do not fall into the trap of using the description to list all keywords, just focus on one or two targeted keywords and do not be repetative. Your manual website submission description needs to be in full and flowing sentences rather than a list of terms. DMOZ is harsh and long in its website inclusion process after manual website submission. They offer no feedback and you can expect to wait from months to years to see your website listed in their directory. Also, if your domain has been owned previously and has been black listed by DMOZ prior to you owning your website domain, do not expect to see your website in there after you have manually submitted your website to them.

It is not a good idea to spam search engines with multiple manual website submissions. If you have searched for your website domain name after website submission and have not seen your website listed with a detailed description of your website after a period of three months, you may submit your website again to DMOZ, Google, Yahoo and MSN. If you see that your website has not been included into top search engines or directories such as Google, Yahoo, DMOZ and MSN after three attempted website submissions (3 attempts in 9 months), you might want to email the search engine representative or editor directly and ask if your website is in the robot crawl bank and why it has not been included into their search engine.

Remember, always submit your homepage to the search engines first. Also make sure you have links to your internal web pages on your home page. Robots will then crawl and list your whole site in search catagories relevant to each page. Once your homepage has been listed, then attempt to manually submit your inside pages.

Automated Website Submission.

Automated website submission has gotten a bad name lately, due mainly to spamming websites into inappropraite submission catagories. Automated website submission consists of the website owner using a program to mass submit their websites to a vast number of search engines, listings and directories. Despite the negative press, automated submission is not a bad idea to get your website listed and build search engine listings and website positioning.

If you decide to use an automated website submission program be sure to remember to look through the list of search engines it submits your website to and click off, or mark as submitted, to top search engines such as Google, Yahoo and MSN as these search engines will look negatively on your website if you attempt to submit your website to them by such means. Try not to submit your website to Free For All links or obvious doorway page links as these are being targeted by top search engines for elimination in organic search results.

Choose targeted search engines relevant to your website content when using automated website submission and remember to resubmit your website on a regular basis (once a month).

One Way Website Linking.

This is a vital component in achieving high website positioning and search engine ranking and is a very easy thing to do. Find websites with similar content or services to yours and ask them to include a link to your website on their site. Make sure you submit your link to sites which are keyword rich and targeted to your website. You should also try and get your link included on a website which has a Google Page Rank of 4/10 or above. Before submitting a link, be sure to look at the source code on the website’s page you are submitting to. If the website has their Robots text off, or with a No Crawl instruction, do not waste your time in submitting to them as your website link will not be crawled by search engine robots. You might also want to consider offering reciprocal links on your website which will help you and your linkers build page rank and website positioning in search engine ranking.

To conclude, website submission is vital for your websites success in search engines. You can not rely on your website being listed if you do not submit your website. By implementing the suggestions listed in this tutorial, you should see a good increase in your website positioning in search engine ranking. Remember, it takes time and work to achieve high search engine ranking in some of the top websites, so be patient.
