Ever wondered how one search engine is dominating the entire web. In any business, you have so much stiff competition. Is there any business that you can start that has no competition ? Whether you decide to open a restaurant or a real estate company - you are going to have a lot of competition. And picture the competition that you will have - you will have 100’s or probably 1000 other people doing the same business. But in search engine competition, you can probably count in your fingers as to how many search engines there are. But still people are hesitant to go into this field.

Ever wondered what is the market of having your own Search Engine. As of today, this is a multibillion dollar industry and it is being dominated by one search engine. Imagine ten years down the road - when everything is moving towards the internet - what huge advantage it would be to have a search engine. Why do you think, companies like Microsoft are jumping into this market.

In order to break the monopoly of one search engine, Objects Search has introduced a concept of topic search engines. They believe that if there is a search engine on a specific topic - people looking for information on that topic would prefer going to that topic search engine rather than going to a general search engine like Google. For instance- say if there is a search engine exclusively for music. If a person wants to search something on music, would he prefer going to a specific music search engine or google.

Objects Search hosted solution allows you to run your own search engine. You can have your own special search engine such as travel, games, animals, medical, software, sports, music, cars or any other category you like. They create and host custom search engine for you by indexing only those sites which meets your selected category. You can also select to index the whole web instead of some specific category.

It is a very bold concept. Right now people are very hesitant to step into this field. They think it is not possible to compete with giants like Google or Yahoo. Well look at it this way, even if you dont compete with google and yahoo, but just by being in that industry - you wud end up getting a small piece of the multibillion dollar industry pie which would amount to a lot.

When we ran the contest back in 1998 we had a idea there would be a few visitors but we got a big surprise. We had up to 1000 people per hour from the local area sitting on the web site waiting for the cop to come in the drive thru. We ran the contest for 2 months and it was the best advertising we had ever done. It produced more then 500 new customers per month and caused a bunch of people to get involved in a contest we felt was going to be middle of the road. As I met with a marketing guru 2 months ago we had sat and chatted about advertising that worked and the Donut shop cop came back to life.

We had been looking for a way to bring customers to our new products that we had been offering on the net  www.nostingkypits.com  & www.growumgreen.com these products needed to get out to the public and get know we felt this could be accomplished with donutshopcop.com. as we had a list of emails that I had collected from jokes friends and family had sent me I sent out a email inviting them to have a look and see if they wanted to join and play the game.

After I sent out a total of 1500 emails personally addressed we got a whopping 85000 hits. It may have to do with the fact of offering win your weight in donuts. Also the fact is when the friend who you referred wins you also get the same prize. This month we are doing some test advertising for a company in Cambridge. It seems to be going ok and people are hitting the site just fine.

Some of the equipment we are using for this can be bought off the shelf if you have the desire to set this up. We used a ATI all in wonder pro for capture. For the camera we used a Samsung video cam on a video cable back into the card. The computer is a old p3 500 with 128 megs ram on Windows XP. The cam software is Webcam32 it is a breeze to setup. It pushes a still back to the server every 60 seconds. It all sits on a cable connection for a local business. There are from 3 to 9 cop cars in the donut shop each day and your chances of winning are high.

For the first win we give them a Tee shirt and some product samples with all names going into the draw for the monthly prize. We plan to offer bigger and better things as we go along. Internet access (1 year DSL connection), lease on a car for a year, boats , bikes and other products as we get rolling all it takes is a little imagination and the sky is the limit.

On our next venture we are going to setup other cams in fast food places and it may be a cop or who knows !!!!

The cam is setup on the Tim Horton’s in Waterloo Ontario Canada.

Looking for help or more info you can contact me directly

With the web today you "sorta haveta" have a rank in the major search engines if you want to be seen. I mean with 250,000,000, yes 250 million searches a day on Google™ alone, how are your visitors and potential customers going to find you?

Now, there are numerous ways in which a Search Engine ranks a website; by keyword density, relevancy, content, etc. etc.. But Link Popularity is an ever growing statistic in how the Search Engines continue to rank websites.

Link popularity, is how "popular" your website is. That is how popular your site is compared to other websites. To put it another way; it is the number of "other websites" that have a link on their website to your website. Did you get that? :)

Now, although Link Popularity "building" is a large science and art in itself, I’ll briefly touch on a couple ways in which you can see how popular you are and how to go about improving your link popularity.

A small side note though, is link popularity is a BIG way in which Google™ ranks their search results. They refer to this as "PageRank". With the Search Engine, FAST, they call it "link score".

Now there are quite a few software programs and sites that can help build your link popularity as well as check your popularity.

Now, there are many ways to check your link popularity. But if you simply want to get a small idea, a little way for you to do this is go to any search engine and type in, "link popularity", without the quotes, and there will be lots of results for you to choose from. And then simply pick a site and check your site popularity.

Now, a small way to build your popularity is by going to the altavista.com engine and type in "link:yourcompetitor.com", and the results that show up will tell you what sites have posted links to your competitor’s websites.

Then simply visit a site and look for a contact method, be it an email address, phone number, etc. and express an interest to them in trading links. It is a win-win method for both sites so, you have nothing to lose. Some might happily oblige, and some might not. It’s certainly worth a try.

In summary, link popularity can be a never ending chore if you have a website. This is because having links on related websites to your website is a very good form of Targeted Traffic which never really quits, because most related links stay up for a long period of time, thus providing a continuous stream of targeted traffic, which, by the way is totally cost free.

And Search Engine traffic and reciprocal link traffic are the best forms of Targeted Traffic there is online. And both are free.

Some "experts" say they don’t exist. Apparently we have become so accustomed to seeing banners, we have learned to ignore them. We sub-consciously create little white blocks exactly 468×60 pixels in size that neatly fit over banners so that we no longer see them and NEVER click on them.

Of course these same experts will then tell you what, of course, you SHOULD be using. Their product.

Naturally some marketing techniques work better than others. But that doesn’t mean the less effective approaches should be ignored. A balanced advertising campaign will spread itself across a variety of mediums.

But isn’t it true that click-thru rates (CTR) on banners have dropped over the years?

This is difficult to ascertain and views on this are conflicting but, ultimately, CTR’s on banners are irrelvant and the measure of success should not be based on this misleading statistic.

Let’s say you get a 2% CTR on your banner. In other words, 2 out of every 100 views results in 2 mouse clicks.

Most would consider this to be a successful banner as most achieve considerably less than this. But how many of those "clickers" then take a genuine interest in the website they view?

Not many. Especially when you consider that the most effective banners are those that give nothing away and lure you in through sheer curiosity.

The banner has successfully achieved a good CTR, but for what purpose.

A banner with a high CTR does not automatically translate into success for your website.

The success of a banner should be judged by a different criteria. By one that cannot easily be measured.

Just for a moment, compare banners to billboard advertising.

How many times have you seen an interesting billboard and then communicated with it to learn more information.

Well, unless you’re Steve Martin in LA Story, the answer is never.

How many times have you rung the phone number or written to the address printed on a billboard?

Once? Twice? Never?

In fact how many billboards do you see that actually provide you with a contact number and / or address so that you can find out more?

They exist, but are few and far between.

Does this mean that billboards are a monumental failure?

Not a bit of it. Billboard advertising is primarily about branding. About getting a product, a logo, a tv channel, a movie, absolutely anything into your brain. If you see it enough times, you will remember it.

You might not even know what it is you have seen, but you can be assured that when you see it on the supermarket shelf or in your TV guide, the billboard image will be recalled and a connection is made.

Branding isn’t about CTR’s, it is about visibility. It’s about presence. If you’re seen enough times, people will instinctively start to think that there must be something worth-while behind the advert.

At the very least, you project the image of success.

And this is important not just to draw new customers but also to keep your existing ones happy.

Think about all the billboards you see for the number one selling brand of cola. Are they looking for new business? Are they really trying to find that miniscule group of people that have yet to try their soft drink?

Not a bit of it. They are just reminding their millions of existing customers that they exist and to keep on buying their product.

So think of your banners, not as a draw to lure people to your webpage, but as an opportunity to tell the viewer that you’re out there. Be sure to remember the following:

– Colour scheme and logo. This should match your website exactly. Placed side by side, the connection between your banner and your website should be glaring.

– Make sure the banner communicates or, at the very least, strongly hints what you are about. Luring people into clicking on your banner about traffic exchanges and then trying to sell them a car is not helpful.

– When you create new banners, keep the style consistent. Viewers should be able to connect your banners together while still seeing something new.

Of coure if CTR’s really matter to you, then this article cannot help you. Instead, you might like to try spending your hard-earned cash on one of those ebooks that teach you how to "hypnotise" your customers.

Although I can’t speak for their quality. I’ve never brought a single one of their "mesmerising" products.

As your guide operator through the web, search engines are invaluable when used effectively.

You don’t have to be able to create a search engine to use it, and their interface is designed with that in mind. Here are some quick considerations that should help any domestic trade.

1.If searching for a regional product, use a regional engine. If you live in Sweden and want information on an Swedish product, use Google.se for example.

This is of particular benefit if something regional is to be delivered to your door. Importing from another country would be impractical, as would a search on the global web.

2.If you don’t know the name of a regional engine, then “ask” the global engine. Example: Type in google and sweden.

3. If you need some information on RUBBER SHOES, then type it into the search box but place inverted commas around it. Example: “rubber shoes”. With inverted commas, results will be returned with rubber and shoes, in juxtaposition.

Without inverted commas, results can be from web pages that have the word, rubber, and the word, shoes, anywhere on the same page. Example: A fairy tale may recount a rubber dingy, and leather shoes in an unrelated sentence. That is fair game from a perspective of an engine, and a legitimate match.

It may be of no use to the searcher, though.

4.Everything on the Internet is not necessarily true. Indeed, if you are doing some research, then it may take many pages of matches to compile the information that you need. You must filter the options as you see fit. Using various search engines will most likely return different matches in different orders, for the very same search term.

The search engines are programmed to return matches based on their rather unique search criteria.

So some flexibility is needed.

5. Generally, search terms don’t have to be case-sensitive.

6. Give the search engines as many clues as possible. Example;

“rubber shoes” chicago should Chicago be the place that you wish to locate a pair of rubber shoes, or information on such a flexible footwear product.

7.The number one match is likely to be the result of many factors, other than the best product for that search term. This is mainly reliant on Search Engine Optimisation, where competition exists. This simply means that something odd or rarely documented, may have no competition, and will come back as number one.

8.Search engines can include and use the results of other search engines.

9.More will exclude, and totally, the results of the competition, as they see appropriate or commercially sensible. Commercial stubbornness is not unknown either.

10. Some search engines use what is referred to as “Boolean operators”. Named after George Boole and his assertion that something can be right or wrong, true or false, and more importantly, on or off, a “new” view of logic was spawned.

It is entirely co-incidental that his father made shoes!

While this can get a little involved, it may be no harm to experiment if your engine of choice supports it. Try; rubber and shoes, rubber or shoes, rubber and not shoes, rubber or not shoes and so on.

Now, one wouldn’t expect those particular search terms and operators to return anything worthwhile, but “computer and not science” should separate the two terms, if supported. Or “someone famous and not someone famous’s wife”, should such English be accepted. I trust that you know what I mean.

Some search engines will return all matches by default or irrespective of operators.

“You have the map; just manipulate the method”.

Once you have finshed designing your website, you want to get as much traffic as possible. You can use the following ways to get traffic. 1. Trade links with other web sites. They should be related to the subject of your web site. Instead of trading links, you could also trade banner ads, half page ads, classified ads, etc.

2. Start an e-zine for your web site. When people read each issue they’ll be reminded to revisit your web site. They’ll see your product ad more than just once which will increase your orders.

3. Form an online community. It could be an online message board, e-mail discussion list or chat room. When people get involved in your community they will regularly return to communicate with others.

4. Write articles and submit them to e-zines, web sites and magazines that accept article submissions. Include your business information and web address at the end of the article.

5. Give away an electronic freebie with your ad on it. Allow your visitors to also give the freebie away. This’ll increase your ad exposure and attract people to your web site at the same time.

6. Combine your products or services into one big package deal with other businesses offerings. You could share a web site and advertise the package deal; which means double the traffic.

7. Submit your freebie to the online directories that list your particular item or service for free. If you’re offering a free e-zine, submit it to all the free e-zine directories on the internet.

8. Participate on message boards. Post answers to other people’s questions, ask questions and post appropriate information. Include your signature file at the end of all your postings.

9. Exchange classified or sponsor ads with other free e-zine publishers. If there is a huge subscriber difference between e-zines, one can run more ads to make up for it.

10. Post your ad on free advertising areas on the internet. You can post it on free classified ad sites, free for all links sites, newsgroups that allow ads, free yellow page directories, etc.

The following traffic generating ideas do not require costly set-up fees or minimum orders. Two of them can be printed in full color with no extra charge. They all can be given away at trade shows, as free gifts with orders, to new newsletter subscribers, etc. Try one or all three and watch your web traffic increase next time your vehicle is caught in traffic.

1.) Vinyl Lettering - Peel and stick individual vinyl letters on your bumper or rear window to spell your out URL. You can usually find vinyl lettering at your local hardware store or craft shop. The hardware store usually only has black on white or white on black. Online craft supply stores such as Dick Blick Art Materials, joann.com, or MisterArt.com offer several colors of vinyl letters.

Why advertise for your car dealer? Carefully peel off the car dealers vinyl sticker on the rear of your car and replace or cover it with your own URL. One disadvantage of using vinyl, it is usually only available in all upper case.

2.) License Plate Frames - A lot of car dealers put their own license plate frames on new and used cars so you can advertise for them while driving around. Why not replace it with your own license plate frame and advertise your website? If you have the right size vinyl letters, you can stick them over the existing frame. Sometimes you can simply turn the frame over and stick the vinyl letters on the blank back. For less than fifteen bucks you can design your own custom full color metal license plate frame at CafePress.com. Visit the link at the bottom of this article to see some license plate frame examples.

3.) Bumper Stickers - Got a rusty bumper? Why not cover it up with your URL? Think of a catchy slogan that relates to your website and make sure to include your URL on the bumper sticker. You can find many do-it-yourself bumper sticker kits available from just about any store that sells office supplies. I have not tried any of them so I can not comment on how well they last. I have made custom bumper stickers at CafePress.com that seem to last. Visit the link at the bottom of this article to see some bumper sticker examples.

Sticker and Frame Design Tips:

Only use top level domain URLs
The shorter the URL the better because it will be much easier for the other driver to remember since most people don’t write down what they see while driving.

Eliminate "http://" and sometimes "www"
Typing "http://" is not required in most browsers and is just a waste of space. In most cases, adding the "www" before the domain name is not necessary (ie. www.mrgoodbeer.com is the same as mrgoodbeer.com). Make sure to test your domain name without the "www" before using it in any advertising.

Capitalize when appropriate
Use both upper and lower case letters in your URL to help the reader identify and remember your site (ie. MrGoodbeer.com is more appealing and memorable than mrgoodbeer.com). Note, most individual vinyl letters are only available in upper case so this is not possible with them.

Use color
Bright colors attract the driver’s attention. Try red on yellow or yellow on red.

Read the guidelines carefully
If using CafePress.com, make sure to read their "Image Workshop" at to take full advantage of available space on the merchandise.

Mike Snyder is the owner of MrGoodbeer.com. For more info about Mike visit http://www.mrgoodbeer.com/aboutus.shtml

You may reprint this article (can be found at http://www.mrgoodbeer.com/bumpertobumper.shtml ) in any form but all links to MrGoodbeer.com in the credits, title, body, and this footer must not be altered.

Every day, on line marketers are dreaming up new ways to gain targeted traffic to their websites; and, almost every beginning marketer will take any kind of traffic to their website because the sign of traffic helps build confidence in the practice of learning to market products, goods, or services over the Internet. Be it SEO (Search Engine Optimization) to boost the ranking of a website, trading reciprocal links with complimentary websites for link popularity, or compiling opt-in email safe lists for direct marketing, the Internet marketer is sure to succeed when following in the footsteps of those that possess the tools and techniques of money making websites.

Now, when one implements a complete marketing plan that entails all three of these strategies: SEO, Links, and eMail, ‘What must one do to stand above the other marketers and really hit pay dirt?’

In strategy one, SEO, there is not much to do once you’ve optimized your site with the proper description and keyword list entered as Meta tags. You set it up and submit it to as many search engines as possible. You can submit it one-by-one by yourself, multiple submits through a submission site, or use PPC (pay-per-click) inclusion by paying for keywords that consumers may use to find your website. This strategy only takes minimal time and effort to maintain or edit, leaving you time to concentrate on swapping links and email (direct) marketing.

Strategy two, reciprocal links, is a way of networking with other websites to maximize popularity with the search engine industry. The more links pointing to and from your website, the higher the ranking and listing in search engine results which leads to more targeted traffic visiting your website. A webmaster can spend 100 of hours locating, contacting, and then trading links with other websites; or, they can utilize a linking management website to pool together websites that are eager to trade and give a way to link with each other in a simple and easy format. If you use a link management site, recommended, then it too frees up some time to devote to other strategies of marketing, like email marketing.

Strategy three, eMail (direct) marketing, is the medium that seems to get the most response for your effort, but finding people to send emails to is a enormous undertaking in itself. A way to capture multiple email addresses is to simply ask the visitors of your website to sign up to some kind of list, either for a contest, freebie give-away, newsletter, or site update report.

You could go the avenue of paying for your advertisement to be placed on someone else’s list, and then you could capture the names of the people who responded to the ad. Having your own unique list is the most effective form of Internet marketing possible. This list gives you the ability to pass your message to these people immediately and many times over. Because whenever you need a rush of traffic to your website, you can just send a message to the list and know that you are sending the message to people who have opted to receive it. These people are the ones you are trying to convince to become your cash-paying customer.

These three strategies must be implemented to gain a tremendous amount of traffic to your website. The process is always an ongoing thing; however, certain areas need more attention than others, such as email (direct) marketing being the most profitable of the three. Most successful marketers will tell you that the ‘money is in the list,’ and you better believe it. As with all marketing strategies, nothing happens over night unless you have spent many days laying the ground work toward success. Your daily attention to these three principles or strategies, SEO, reciprocal linking, and email (direct) marketing, is the ground work that you must do before, during, and after your success on the Internet because if you blink the website behind you has passed you and are now capturing the customers you were after.

Internet marketing is a cruel game if you want to play, but all the rewards cannot be put into words…..however, $$$$$$$$$$$$, cash flow, and assets are a few words that do come to mind!

Always pay attention to detail, watch and learn from others, and believe in yourself!

Learn How To Use These Six Explosive Marketing Techniques To Explode Your Website With Traffic

You could have the best opportunity, product, or service on the internet, but if you are not getting any traffic to your website, what does it matter? Getting massive traffic to your website is just the beginning of being successful over the internet. Nevertheless, it’s not the end.

Although getting traffic to your website should be your main focus, there is just more to it than just getting traffic to your website. In the next following section, we will talk about the six explosive marketing techniques that you would have to apply to your internet marketing efforts in order to become a successful internet marketer.

1.Testing - When you are marketing over the internet, you are going to have to know what works and what doesn’t. That’s why you are going to have to experiment with different types of advertising to find that out. If you are experimenting with different types of advertising, how are you going to know what type of advertising is working? This what leads me to the next following marketing technique, Ad-tracking services.

2. Ad-tracking Services - Ad tracking services are a great way to test which form of advertising is working and which is not. Some of these services are capable of keeping track of your hits, sales, etc. To find an ad tracking service, just go to a major search engine and type in "Ad tracking services" and plenty ad tracking services will come up. After this happens, do some investigating and choose the one that is best for you.

3. Website Design - You want to make sure that you have a decent looking website to promote your product or service. Don’t get to caught up in all the fancy graphics when it comes to designing a website. These fancy graphics that you see on other websites could cause your website to load real slow. You must remember when people are browsing on the internet, they like to get on a website to find what they are looking for and get right off. If your website takes a long time to load, you could loose a lot of sales. When you design your website, make sure you use gif or jpeg graphics because they load really quick. Remember, the amount of time it takes your website to load, could determine how many sales you are going to make, or lose.

4. Good Content - It’s very important to have good content on your website. The product or service that you are promoting should strongly state the benefits. You should talk about how the benefit of your product or service could improve the quality of their lives. Remember, people are not concerned about the features of your product or service, but they want to know what it can do for them.

5. Website Traffic - If your internet business is going to survive over the internet, you are going to need a lot of traffic, but just not any kind of traffic. When you are marketing over the internet, you are going to need to get "targeted traffic." What do I mean by targeted traffic? For example, if you are promoting a service that deals with selling envelopes, you are not going to promote it to people interested in health care are you? Absolutely not. You want to make sure you market to an audience that is interested in your product, service, or business opportunity. For example, if you are promoting a service selling marketing software, make sure you find an audience of "interested buyers" who are interested in marketing software. If you don’t target your audience, your career as an internet marketer will be short lived.

6. Time Management - Again, going back to the ad-tracking service. If you use an ad-tracking service to track your marketing campaigns, you could use the statistics from the ad tracking service to tell where you should spend your time marketing. For example, lets say you use two different methods of marketing such as e-zines, and submission software. Now you go to your ad tracking service to check the results of the two marketing methods that were just mentioned. You find out that your marketing in e-zines bought you 1,000 hits, and your marketing using the submission software bought you 100 hits. I would not tell you to stop using the submission software because obviously it’s bringing you hits. It will make more since to spend most of your time marketing in e-zines because it brought you more hits. I’m definitely not saying what was mentioned in the above example will happen, but it just gives you an indication where you should spend most of your time marketing.

This article was not written to critique internet marketers in any way. It was written to help internet marketers become more efficient and smarter when it comes to marketing over the internet. Some internet marketers only focus on getting traffic, but some neglect things such as web design, testing, and good content which could make a big difference. Remember, getting traffic to your website is just half the battle won, but converting it into sales is a complete victory.
